Sub-Working Group 3.3
Addressing Populations in Contact with the Criminal Justice System, including Alternatives to Incarceration
When addressing the needs of individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) who are in contact with the justice system both public health and public safety are important goals for the ones affected, their family, communities and ultimately the state. Effective interventions need to address both. This working group will review international policies and frameworks, data and good practices, current challenges and will generate ideas on possible program alternatives at multiple steps along the justice continuum including from pre-arrest, pre-trial, trial, and post -trial to respond to the needs of this population and streamline access to evidence-based treatment and social integration opportunities. Participants should come from both the health and judicial sectors.
